Hey all. I know that it has been a long time since I last wrote. Hope that things are well in your pool (or poker) world. We have another one-pocket tournament tomorrow. we barely had one last time because of poor attendance. Hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised by the turnout at QBall tomorrow.
Honestly, I find myself wondering why we go out of our way to attempt to accomodate players. I put together a tournament that it welcoming to players of any levels, and have honed the handicapping system to the point where it is almost just right. different players win on a regular basis, and it is a good time, and an opportunity to play people you don’t normally play. Now i know that we are not ALL out to just steal, so maybe we could meet at QBall tomorrow and play some pool. If not, maybe it would be best to just stop this tournament.
Comments welcome of course.
just my thought.
David

I just heard yesterday that a few one pocket players from Rockaway Billiards will be heading to out next tournament on March 14. If anyone knows them, wish them luck and tell them to come early. This should be a good one.

Hello. The one pocket tournament, as scheduled, was played at QBall Billiards in Toms River on Sunday. Not the best turnout due to a conflict with a nine-ball tournament in the Atlantic City area, but we played anyway. We were visited by Trenton Lou, Gypsy Bob, and 6 others including my self, and we played our double elimination tournament until about 9pm. It looked like Gypsy bob was going to take the tournament by storm, as he played undefeated until the final match. Trenton lou played Lefty Bob in the semifinals and Lefty, recieving 10-8 played his hardest and edged out Lou to get to the finals. It was an interesting match because Lou was the defending champion, and lefty had won the tournament in the past.
In the finals, it was the clash of the Bobs as Lefty Bob played Gypsy Bob (aka Toms River Bob pka Gentleman Bob). Lefty had to win two matches against Gypsy, and after winning the first match 2-0 he moved on to win the second match and claim victory once again. the game was played 9-8.
A good time was had by all including newcomer Mike. Mike, and two other players recieved complimentary gift certificates to area restaurants compliments of WOBM FM.
The next tournament will begin at noon on March 14th. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

I have been playing this game for only 17 years. I am no expert. I have my moments though, you know, the times when your opponent says, “how am i gonna beat this guy?” when he usually kicks your butt. I had one of those days recently. I played a lot of pool and I came out ahead at the end of the day, I was in “the zone” but what puts us there. How do we amateurs get in the zone?, because I would like to be there more often.
I am still working on the shoe theory. I have worn the same shoes the last few times I went to play pool. Today I am going to Q Ball Billiards where tomsriver.tv will be shooting something featuring Danny Basavich. I am wearing my sneakers, which I don’t prefer, but we’ll see…
Still, if you know of a way where a non-focused guy like me can get focused, I am all ears. feel free to comment. Incidentally I will be removing the option to be a friend because it just doesn’t seem to work. sorry mingle.
There is a one-pocket tournament at Q Ball on Sunday!!! be there.
till next time…

Hey. I am not really a football fan. Its not that I don’t like the game, or that I don’t get excited at watching a good matchup, but I just don’t prioritize Football to be something worth spending time with. I’m not sure why, but Pool gets a much higher ranking than Football. So, as you might imagine, since I had some free time (my wife might disagree) I was playing pool while the Colts played with the Jets. I hear it was a pretty good game. I was playing Bob, and I was playing well. I did better then the Jets, stayed on top of my defense, while continuing to move the ball forward. When the Football game was over and the dust settled I was still driving ahead. I was winning, and Bob is no easy opponent, so I was pretty happy with myself, but then the Vikings game started and things began to change for me. Much like a most respected (by some) Vikings quarterback, I got tired and weak, I allowed too many turnovers, and I lost all the ground I spent the earlier part of the day gaining. At the end it was a wash, and neither I, nor the Jets, nor the Vikings (poor things) were making it to the Super Bowl.
Better luck next time.
Hey there. it HAS been a while. Not sure if you are following all this, and perhaps in light of the goings on in Haiti, which carry just a little more weight than football, let alone pool I should not be saying anything this trivial at all, but…
What the heck!? I mean how many people are there in New Jersey, and how many of them play pool? and how many of them play one-pocket? and how many of them like football (apparently too many)? I like the game but i am beginning to believe that there are few people with much hart in NJ. PLEASE prove me wrong. I have scheduled a series of One-Pocket tournaments in Toms River, including a big invitational. these tournaments are open to amateurs, professionals, even novices because they are handicapped. We have spent a good deal of time developing this handicapping system, and I am almost proud of it. Check it out. If you or someone you know likes one-pocket get to Toms River on Feb 21 and lets begin to bring pool back to New Jersey.
I’m ready, are you?

Last night was a home game at Frank’s. a tournament, very friendly with much talking around the table. I am not really a fan of games with a lot of talking, because after all we are there to play poker, right? But with this group of guys, it is the norm, so you kind ofget used to it. Art plays at this game, and he is what people might call an unconventional player (a category to which I belong as well). Following is an excerpt from last nights chapter of the Book of Art:
We were about an hour or more into this 9 man tournament, and we had lost one player. Art was the small blind – 6400..two players down was me. I was sort of in a bad place to be raising, but I was kind of short stacked: 21,400 so I stuck my neck out there and went all in. The play moved around the table and all folded until it got to Art, who was holding A-5 Off suit. Art was already committed to the $6400 and he had about 25,000 more in his stack, so he would be committing most of his chips if he decided to make the call. Art “knows” me so he “knows my play” and Art figured that I had nothing, so he called. I was not happy that he called, because I had 7-9 Diamonds, but when the flop came out 8, 10, J i was feeling a little better.
Got away with one there, thanks Art!
